I remember a time when ravens cost at least 130mil. Am I remembering right? This would have been around last quarter 2006.
Doing a quick price check at the Jita-Mart I see that ravens are averaging around 81 mil currently.
Assuming I'm right about the 2006 price I will further assume that this price plummet is reflected across all ship types including those of the popular suicide ganking variety.
Now for the biggie: I assume that this general lowering of Eve "cost of living" has been mainly due to the introduction of the drone regions.
I will pile on even more assuming, and propose that insurance payouts are still based on the old "sane" values of ores. Thereby driving the payout much closer (and sometimes higher) than the original purchase price. I have no idea really so I'm probably wrong, but what the hell, I'm assuming all this so...
Since I'm well into the mode of assuming things, I will further postulate that the supposed crazy amounts of suicide ganking as an opportunity business has been a direct symptom of this mineral market mayhem.
Drone Regions => cheaper ships => Lots of suicide ganking
Of course there's other factors such as: - rigs + hp buffs making lvl4s/ratting much easier = faster isk making - invention lowering "cost of living" as well = people have more isk to throw around - exploration, datacores, salvage as more isk making oportunities - :tinfoil: the isk farmers are more rampant than we think and there is a metric buttload of isk "out there" - Or hell, take off the tinfoil and just point at the increase in the playerbase as a cause for increase in total generated isk. Think of all those mission runners and ratters creating isk out of nowhere.
Basically, since kali, it seems that the cost in isk to set yourself up in ship and modules has continually decreased while ways to make isk have increased. All this adds up to things just being cheaper in general and the idea of just throwing away ships for LOLs a pretty feasible one.
So, I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong Akita, but assuming all the above is right (hell of alot of assuming ):
Do you think it's possible that CCP realize that all this has amounted to cheaper pvp in the end? And perhaps they might think that is more a worthwhile factor than fixing the skewed risk/reward issues and just line the nerf bat up on any other symptoms that might fall out of that.... like suicide ganking getting out of hand.
I have no real evidence other than thinking about how things have changed, but that's my tinfoiled WAG at it.

Originally by: Akita T For those saying that making highsec even so slightly safer will have no effect (or vice-versa)... an interesting read : Linkage

Which is exactly why people like me are looking forward to the changes. I haven't suicide ganked in several months, but as soon as they make things "safer"...
Yeah, should be target rich afterwards.

As to the whole risk/reward ratio between hisec and 0.0. One question:
Do you think changing the drone regions into a normal 0.0 zone (say gurista rats) would go far in straightening it out?
